Our swimmers
They wake up before dawn. They push through fatigue. They race with determination, and they win.
Ishyaka swimmers hail from across Rwanda.
Many of them represent their nation at international competitions.
Two Ishyaka swimmers hold Rwandan national records, with more to come.
Each and every Ishyaka swimmer demonstrates the strength and success that grow from the training, structure, and leadership skills that sport provides.
Our management
Ishyaka Swim Club is managed by Elise & Liban Mugabo, based in Kigali, Rwanda.
Lifelong athletes themselves, Elise & Liban are raising an athletic family, including a child who competes internationally, as a member of the Rwandan national swim team. Their swimming network spans Rwanda, the United States, and Europe, and they bring that reach to bear on building something lasting here at home.
ISC is also guided by a dedicated board of directors that shares our commitment to building a sustainable, community-rooted programme.
Our Rwandan roots
Ishyaka Swim Club is the first sports club in Rwanda to be registered as a National Non-governmental Organisation (NNGO), a milestone that reflects our deep accountability to the communities we serve. We operate entirely on a non-profit basis, driven solely by our mission.
ISC swimmers currently train in Kigali, Karongi, and Rutsiro, with more locations on the horizon. Many of our athletes represent Rwanda on the national team, compete internationally, and hold national records.
